HIGHLANDS

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN LIMA (D). Group arrival in Lima. Transfer to hotel. If possible, city sightseeing. Welcome dinner and coordination.
Day 2: LIMA – CARAL – HUARAZ (B). We leave the city at 7h00, take the Northern Panamericana highway for nearly 200 km. Stop in the archaeological site Caral in Supe river valley. Caral was built 5,000 years ago and was the very first city in America. People in Caral venerated fire and used to build pyramids. Walking tour around Caral. After lunch, we continue our road trip up to Huaraz. Hotel night.
Day 3: OVERLAND CORDILLERA BLANCA (YURAC) OVERLAND/HIKE HUARAZ-LLANGANUCO-KEUSHU (B,L,D). We leave the hotel and drive through the “Callejón de Huaylas” stopping in Yungay. There we visit the buried towns of Yungay and Ranrahirca by the 1970’s avalanche. We drive the steep sinuous roads. From here we can already sight the famous Huascaran (6788 m peak). We enter the Huascaran natural protected area and stop to hike around the lakes Chinancocha and Orococha. Camping night in Keushu lake.
Day 4: KEUSHU-CEBOLLA PAMPA-LAGUNA 69 – CEBOLLAPAMPA YANAMA 5h hike (B,L,D): After breakfast at 6h00, we set off the camping and enter again to the Huascaran natural protected area heading to Cebollapampa. From here we start the 7 km hike up to lake 69. In our way we will see four mountains: Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Chacraraju and Pisco. Lake 69 is a glacial lake at the foot of Chacraraju. After we make our way back down to the vehicles, we drive through Portachuelo and change the valley to Conchucos. Hotel night.
Day 5: OVERLAND CORDILLERA BLANCA – YANAMA CHAVIN DE HUANTAR (B). We will drive through the “Callejón de los Conchucos”, Eastern side of the “Cordillera Blanca”, passing through several small towns in our way. This valley grows to the sides of the Mosna river. Lots of corn and wheat fields until Chavin de Huantar. In this town we can visit underground paths dating from 1,000 years BC.
Day 6: CHAVIN-MITUCOCHA (aprox. 3 h-bus / 4 h-hike) (B,L,D). After an early breakfast, a private shuttle will take us to our first trekking day. Following the left side of the Pativilca river, we will go up to the Llamac river’s valley and then follow our path through Pocpa until Cuartelwain. Here we will meet muleteers and local assistants whom we will share the trip with. Starting the trekking we will hike up to Cacananpunta (4,750 m AMSL) where we will observe the reddish waters of Pucacocha lakes and the eastern Huayhuash peaks. After a quick stop, we will hike to Mitucocha campsite, at the foot of Jirishanca Chico (5,544 m peak), Jirishanca Grance (6,094 m peak) and Rondoy (5,789 m peak). Rest and dinner. Camping night.
Día 7: MITUCOCHA-CARHUACOCHA (aprox. 5 h) (B,L,D). After breakfast, the hike from today will take us to Vizcas (4,650 m AMSL) from where we can see the East face of Jirishanca. Later, we will go back down to our campsite in Carhuacocha lake by the mountains Siulá (6,344 m peak), Yerupajá (6,634 m peak), Yerupajá Chico (6,121 m peak) and Jirishanca (6,094 m peak).
Day 8: CARHUACOCHA-HUAYHUASH (aprox. 7 h) (B,L,D). After breakfast, we leave Carhuacocha behind and we head our campsite in Huayhuash. This is a tough day. We hike an average of 14 km in a very steep path that takes us to Carnicero (4,800 m AMSL). From there we can appreciate three beautiful lakes in Siula canyon. We will finish the day at the Atogshaico lakes and Carnicero (5,960 m peak) and Jurau (5,674 m peak) mountains. Dinner and camping.
Day 9: HUAYHUASH-TRAPECIO-HUANACPATAY (aprox. 10 h) (B,L,D). After a good breakfast, we will start the thoughest day of the tour. We will hike up 4 hours until Trapecio (5,050 m AMSL). Then we will go down to Puscanturpa and Cuyoc mountains’ side until Yanapampa. After this we will hike up again to San Antonio (4,700 m AMSL) where we will have the most spectacular view of the mountain range. We will go back down to Huanacpatay campsite where we will spend the night after dinner.
Day 10: HUANACPATAY-HUATIAC (aprox. 7 h) (B,L,D). Today we will have a quiet morning to rest. Before midday we will border the left side of Calinca valley and head to Huayllapa (3,300 m AMSL) where we will have a quick lunch. We will set up the camp in Huatiac, facing the Diablo Mudo mountain. Dinner and camping.
Day 11: HUATIAC-JAHUACOCHA (aprox. 7 h) (B,L,D). We will cross two high points: Col de Tapush (4,750 m AMSL) and Col Yaucha (4,847 m AMSL). We begin in Tapush, then border the Susucocha lake (4,600 m AMSL) on the side of Diablo Mudo mountain and finally we make our way down to Yaucha. The day finishes on the border of the lake Jahuacocha, facing the Jirishanca mountains. Camping.
Day 12: JAHUACOCHA-POCPA-HUARAZ (aprox. 4 h-hike / 3 h-bus) (B,L,D). In the last day of the trekking we will leave the Huayhuash mountains behind. After a 2 hour hike, we will be entering the Warmi Huañush forest. Hummingbirds and other species will accompany us in our journey. After this, we will make our way down back to Pocpa where our private shuttle will be waiting for us and will take us to Chiquian. After a lunch stop in Chiquián, we will drive to Huaraz, where we will spend the night in a hotel.
Day 13: HUARAZ – LIMA (B). 8 hours drive from Huaraz to Lima where we will spend the night in a hotel.
Day 14: LIMA (D). Free day in Lima. Hotel night.
Day 15: LIMA (D). Transfer to the airport.
